It’s a real shame that Congress isn’t covered by UCMJ, the Universal Code of Military Justice. Under it, people who don’t do their jobs can be court-martialed under Article 92. Congress is derelict in its duty if shuts down government over a boneheaded idea to defund Obamacare. Why is it boneheaded?
Obamacare passed Congress and survived a Supreme Court Challenge. Ergo, it’s the law. Defunding it is “cute” but the yet-to-be-completely-implemented Obamacare is not a substantive enough issue to force the government to shut down. The GDP will take a hit every day the US government doesn’t spend money. Military personnel will be putting their lives on the line for NOTHING — there is a military term for this: it’s plain chickensh*t.
Senator Cruz, please shut up. You are a brand-new Senator and you don’t know sh*t from Shinola about unintended consequences. Freshman Senators are supposed to be seen and not heard. You’re the worst thing to happen to the Republican Party since Spiro T. Agnew. Republicans can’t have a prayer of winning the Presidency in 2016 if they are known as the Party of No. People vote for the party that gives them hope, not for the side of gloom and doom.
Obamacare is behind schedule because of the Supreme Court challenge. As a result, millions of health care providers, patients, hospitals and insurers are working feverishly to get up to speed. Forty-seven million Americans are uninsured and finally have a shot at insurance and this pea brain comes along and wags a finger in their face, “That would be bad for you.”
Besides, some of the provisions are already in place.
Barack Obama was a one-term senator who was eloquent and little more. He has not been a home run. He’s been amateurish in many ways. What sorts of candidates do we need for President? We need people with a variety of leadership experience. Look at George HW Bush: youngest navy pilot ever, envoy to China, Ambassador to the UN, the head of the CIA, a Congressman, Vice-President for two terms. He was qualified to be president.
Ted Cruz is no Bush 41.
He isn’t even a twig.
I will personally smack upside the head the next person who touts him as a Presidential candidate. He graduated summa cum laude from Princeton and was editor at Harvard Law Review, so I know he is smart. But I’ve paid for several Ivy degrees and every institution has its Bozo Quotient. Ted Cruz is a Bozo of the Senate.
The ship of state is in perilous economic waters. We do not need destabilization by a government shutdown. This could tip us over from a recession-trying-to-pretend-it’s-going-away into an economic death roll: a full-on recession. Then the veil over our dire financial straits might get ripped away and we’d have ourselves a Depression. Thanks Ted.
Defunding Obamacare would result in a shutdown. Aside from the HUGE hit to a fragile economy, a shutdown would be an enormous waste of all the time and effort people in healthcare have put into making ready for Obamacare structure. For a full rundown, check out this article in Forbes.com
The hubris of Ted Cruz is enormous. Playing politics is one thing, but threatening to shut down the government over funding a duly passed the law of the land is irresponsible and a dereliction of duty. You don’t let a newbie on the bridge of the ship of state. Someone please confine him to quarters.
Our ship of state has huge momentum, and a rapid course change in perilous seas is dangerous. Oh, and don’t bother calling the Coast Guard to help — they’ll be on furlough.
That’s my opinion, what’s yours?
